When artist Sara Ouhaddou chose to have one of her works transcribed in stained glass, her collaboration with the studio gave birth to five inspired panels.
Sara says, “My work consists in questioning the Arabic / Islamic geometrical patterns. These geometries form a cultural language used in arts and crafts, architecture, and clothing all over the Arab and Islamic world. Referring to the ‘DNA of Islamic patterns,’ this project will define my own ‘alphabet and syntax.’ To that end, I transform the two-dimensional Islamic designs into three-dimensional items. The SYNTAX project is inspired by my personal experiences of the language.”
