In my designs, I often seek to create contrasts and tension between sometimes opposing stylistic worlds. I particularly appreciate the interplay of Art Deco lines with the soft, rounded curves of vegetal scrolls. For these designs, the challenge is to find a balance between orthogonal, geometric, and vertical elements and the dynamic lead lines that animate the composition. Here, textures serve as a backdrop for a leaf motif that unfolds across the glass like a watercolor painting with varied hues.

Offering both the possibility of playing with scale ratios, but also with matte and shiny effects, these explorations are the expression of a more personal aesthetic, often characterized by the search for dynamic movement and an organic inspiration drawing its source from the vegetal and animal kingdoms.

Used in geometric or Art Deco compositions, these textures create an effect of tension and contrast that animates the whole. On the other hand, designed to cover the entire glazed surface, they become the contemporary expression of an abstract and timeless stained-glass window.

Thanks to this, glass colors display many variations in hues and intensity according to the thickness of the sheet of glass, the bubbles and the streaks present in the glass.

Glass painting is therefore rarely used to color glass. On the contrary, it is more often found to draw motifs and patterns, to depict people, flowers or other ornamental elements. The result is often a window depicting a picture as would a painting on canvas. Through my research, I propose a different interpretation of glass painting that transforms the color of glass. It is no longer a question of painting a pattern but of transforming the entire surface of the glass to create a new tint or enhance the original color of the glass. The application of paint then makes it possible to obtain a surface effect rather than an ornament.

Also, Art Déco stained glass is often made with colorless industrial glass, which depends on its textures to generate varying light effects.

In my Art Déco creations, I put the emphasis on a minimal use of lines, and try to avoid entangled shapes. Thus the lead work plays a large role in the graphic composition of the panels. I use various sizes of lead to create rhythm and structure.

Stepping outside most traditional Art Déco codes, I like to use colored, mouthblown glass in my panels and to combine it with industrial glass. This gives my creations a more contemporary look, and often surprises the eye.

I enjoy creating new surfaces on glass. For that, I appreciate the patterns inspired by the world of fabric that expand throughout the surface of glass and give the impression of continuing “outside the frame”. This approach of painting and sandblasting gives a more architectural dimension to the decor, which becomes a surface or even a texture on glass before becoming an ornament. The pattern thus conceived on a large scale, even when it is otherwise meticulous and refined, then offers a filter for the gaze which can be read on two scales: up close, it is a pattern, from afar, a tingling effect for the eyes.

This research around textiles can lead to various paths, from wax to oriental and Japanese damask, passing through the designs of William Morris…

Geometry is one of the most natural expressions of stained-glass whose graphic lead lines make up and punctuate the panels. It is therefore quite naturally that I take this path in my creations and that I give importance to composed line works through the creation of almost musical rhythms supported by different widths of lead in my stained-glass windows.

Recently, however, the desire to explore a different expression of the line, freed from lead, has given rise to new artistic proposals. By engraving or painting the lines directly on the glass, outside of any network of lead, I can combine these rhythms with a light, soft graphic design, displayed by the surface of the glass and not by the black outline of the lead. The result lies in the creation of stained-glass windows where lead, painted lines and carved designs mingle, intersect and merge to create elegant and refined atmospheres.
